OBJECTIVE

To find a position that will challenge both my abilities and my creativity fully in the electronics & electronic engineering industry. Areas of specialization include discrete electronic design of analog and digital circuitry, project management, manufacturing support and repair of existing designs (Maintenance and trouble-shooting, ECO, FAB issues, etc), component sourcing, CAD and PCB layout, test fixture design, design for manufacturability, manufacturing engineer and related fields. I am seeking a team orientated and creative work environment that will balance my technical skills with my need to create learn in a positive and healthy work environment.

SKILLS & CERTIFICATES

EMPLOYMENT

Independent Contracting                                          July 2005 – Present
  Self-Employed.                                                           Asheville, NC

Designed new products as a consultant for various clients. Product design includes electronic design, PCB layout, design for manufacturability, testing and proving of design and some mechanical design and drafting. Designs have maintained a focus in digital video and audio applications with experience in FireWire and USB design, embedded microprocessor and DSP, CCD and CMOS imager designs and low power LiOn Battery applications.

   Associate Engineer                                                    May 2001 – June 2005
   Nexus Technologies INC.                                         Asheville, NC

My main focus was in digital and analog electronic circuit design and PCB layout.  I designed a series of industrial quality CCD based digital cameras using Analog Devices DSPs and CCD drivers, Sony CCDs, Xilinx FPGAs and TI based external communication.  Design work was also done for various industrial control and monitoring applications with both digital and analog concerns. Work was also done in specialized switching power supplies as well as other mixed signal designs.  During my employment with Nexus I became known for my specialty in very dense and small designs with unique packaging requirements and became very proficient at PCB layout and decal optimization in these more difficult layout environments.  I was also instrumental in bringing designs from prototype to production by bringing designs through UL/FCC testing as well as design cost down, component reduction, purchasing assistance and other tasks required to bring designs past just a simple engineering working prototype.

   Chief Engineer                                                            October 1999 - February 2001
Light Engineered Displays INC.                                Wilmington, NC

Supported all facets of manufacturing and product support for products used in the alarm industry.  Duties included manufacturing support, new product design, engineering and development. This included component level digital and analog design, embedded and PC software development, FPGA/CPLD design, PCB layout, technical product support and documentation as well design test and manufacturing systems for products.  Provide continued support and improvement of products based on feedback from clients, manufacturing, and end users.  Also assisted purchasing with component specifying and sourcing.  Provided support for local area computer network as well as help with graphic arts and electronic PDF catalog for company web site.

Project Engineer                                       June 1997 - present
XiChron INC.                                           Norwich, VT & Wilmington, NC

Supported Engineering team in design and implementation of complex DSP based digital audio processing designs. Designed most of company's analog sub-sections and power supplies, including 24 bit ADCs and DACs. Provided support in many phases of design, including hardware design and testing, design for manufacturability, software implementation and testing, part sourcing, purchasing and PCB layout. Used a variety of PCB layout tools (Pads PCB, Accell, Protel), FPGA compilers for Xilinx, etc. Maintained local network, wrote MRP program for in-house project/inventory tracking.

   Chief Engineer                                         Dec 1995 - June 1997
Allied Electronic Services INC.              Windsor, VT
Responsible for the day to day support of a contract manufacturing facility. Duties included design and construction of test fixtures & procedures. Design, component level repair and support (ECOs) of new and existing products of both analog and digital topologies, with a heavy emphasis on MultiBuss interfacing, switching power suppliers, machine control applications and consumer products. Supported existing designs for part obsolescence, artwork changes, design for manufacturability, cost down, vender sourcing, and compliance (UL/CSA) monitoring, etc. Provided PCB layout, GERBER generation, and ECOs. Supported manufacturing including parts tracking, substituting, design for manufacturability, documenting, pick & place and wave maintenance. Supervised technicians and testers in engineering department. Acted as system administrator for Novell NetWare network system.
